Alive at 3440m!

The trek has begun and is going great! We made it to Lukla without any problems and had an easy first day. Today was a little more challenging (about 1000m total elevation gain) but we are on schedule and reached Namche Bazaar around 14:00. We're both feeling well, drinking lots of tea and breathing heavily! Jennie even managed to run a whole 10m before having to catch her breath. Hooray for 63% oxygen!

Our accommodations have been excellent (better than Kathmandu) except for maybe the hole in the floor for the toilet. Namche Bazaar is an amazing place with far too many amazing things to buy. We're doing our best not to spend all of our money on the second day. Good thing we left those Visa cards in Kathmandu.

The internet up here on the mountain seems to be even better than the big city (as does air quality and water quality) so we'll try to update again before returning.

Send us your luck and any spare oxygen you may find floating around!

  2. What is the pulse oximeter reading? You sure the hole in the floor was the toilet?

  3. Is this about less oxygen, or less air pressure?
